Save Gilad Atzmon!!!
It’s a shame that Indymedia Watch shut down, because they would have had a field day with this bizarre story.
An administrator at UK Indymedia, going by the handle “FTP,” has started a blog called Saying NO to the Hunters of Atzmon.
The background:
Recently, our favorite anti-semitic jazz musician, Gilad Atzmon, penned an article, “Saying NO to the Hunters of Goliath,” wherein he suggests, among other things, that Jews brought the Holocaust upon themselves, because they were, well, so unpopular.
The article was posted on UK Indymedia, which prompted a response from Tony Greenstein, a staunchly anti-Zionist Jew who has been personally attacked by Atzmon and his groupies for being a Jewish supremacist (which, as far as I can tell, is defined as any political activist who describes himself as Jewish).
Greenstein wrote on the UK Indymedia site:
Atzmon demonstrates that he is not only an unreformed anti-semite and racist, but pig ignorant too. Jews were not exterminated in the Final Solution because of their unpopularity but because a fascist movement, with a core integrative ideology of anti-Semitism, saw the Jews as the source of Bolshevism and believed that the creation of lebensraum (‘living space’) was only possible with the extermination of Jews, Gypsies and from then on the Slav peoples… There are many anti-Semitic sites which would no doubt feel themselves privileged to publish this kind of racist trash. I sincerely hope that Indymedia, when it realizes what has been posted, will quickly take down this apologetic for the Hitlerites.
This, in turn, prompted FTP to start his blog as a way to document the “war of attrition” (huh?) waged by anti-Zionists against Atzmon.

I have a feeling that [this blog] might be useful to the next group or organization that gets dragged into this war, and when that happens I hope they find this, and make use of it. It also gives me an opportunity to explain where I stand on matters, and to give my side of the story. I believe that there is every likelihood that Greenstein and his friends will seek to drag my name through the mud, will label me an anti-semite, will suggest that I am a Holocaust denier, and many other horrible things.
I say that it is time Moshe Machover, Tony Greenstein, Deborah Maccoby, Mark Elf and friends take a time for reflection, that they think long and hard about whether their war of attrition is serving any useful purpose, about whether it is in the best interests of the Palestinian solidarity movement that they act in this manner, and that they try and understand how it appears that the ideological mindset they seem to have adopted, seems to allow them to justify using the exact same methods of intimidation that the Zionist lobby uses…
Yes, FTP, future generations will no doubt look back at your blog as an indispensable memoir of the Great Moonbat Civil War of ’07. Anyway, the blog just gets weirder from there, with page after page of emails, counter-emails, counter-counter-emails, blog posts that comment on the emails, emails countering the blog posts that comment on the emails, etc, etc.
Still, the blog has some choice quotes, including this response from Atzmon himself:
AIPAC, ADL, ZIONISM, BUND, JEWS FOR PEACE AND JEWS AGAINST PEACE, JEWS FOR THAT AND JEWS AGAINST SOMETHING ELSE are all different formations of some Judeocentric racially-orientated tribal political identities. They all serve a similar cause, and this cause is ‘the Jewish people’. Though they have different plans for the Jewish people and the rest of the world, they all separate between Jews and Humanity.
I think it’s Atzmon who lost his connection with humanity some time ago…

there was no plan to "exterminate the Slav peoples". of course, many were murdered and enslaved by the german nazis, but they were immeasurably higher in the racial hierarchy than jews and gypsies - hence belorussian, ukrainian, russian, croat, baltic etc. SS units. the ultra-left likes to minimize the persecution of the jews by tossing in slavs as victims, this is just another strategy to de-emphasize the nature of the holocaust.
Only just seen this blog. It's not true that there was no plan to exterminate the Slavs. The fact that the Nazis murdered and intended to murder others takes nothing away from the extermination of European Jewry. There is no competition in these matters.
For the first 2 years of the occupation of Poland more Jews were murdered because they were part of the Polish intelligentsia than because they were Jewish. Don't forget that 3 million Poles were also killed. Millions of Russians, especially soldiers, but others considered political opponents. Yes there were fascist SS units from all the minorities but that doesn't mean the populations themselves were considered on an equal racial level to the Aryans. The volks deutsche among them formed the primary element in these battalions in any case. But bitter partisan wars grew up in most countries bar Hungary and even in Slovakia there was a national uprising in 1944 which Rudolf Vrba participated in.
If the Holocaust is merely a propaganda weapon then yes, let's leave out all others, but if it is seen as part of a process of what can happen when racism in its most lethal variant takes hold, then it may serve as a warning against the perils of racism. Yes socialism and class politics does provide an antidote to murderous nationalism and racism. And yes, those conclusions also apply to the Israeli state where the Law of Return is fundamentally the same as the Nuremburg Laws of 1935, as Hannah Arendt noted in Eichmann in Jeruslame.
