"Zionist groups"

An article appearing in Worker's World informs us that the campaign urging humanitarian intervention in Sudan is actually part of a plot among the imperialist powers--the U.S., France, and Britain--to seize control of Darfur's untapped oil reserves.

Yeah, we all know how the Western powers have been barely able to restrain themselves from preventing this unfolding tragedy, right? I was initially surprised that Israel wasn't somehow involved in this alleged conspiracy...but, as I read further, the intrepid reporters at Worker's World didn't disappoint:

Two Zionist groups, the American Jewish World Service and the Jewish Council for Public Affairs, have taken a very active role in building a national rally set for April 30 whose main demand is direct U.S. intervention in Darfur to “stop the genocide.” The AJWS is pushing to replace the African Union soldiers in Darfur with 20,000 UN or NATO troops.

Ahhh..."Zionist groups" are involved. Now it all makes sense. Of course, I'm not entirely clear why the comrades are up in arms about the AJWS. In fact, the group has very little to do with Israel at all. As the AJWS website informs us, it's an independent not-for-profit organization founded in 1985 to help alleviate poverty, hunger and disease among the people of the world regardless of race, religion or nationality. Their efforts include such sinister projects as promoting sustainable agriculture, supporting women's empowerment, and helping AIDS patients in Africa. And, crazily enough, they believe it is incumbent upon people--particularly those forever mindful of the Shoah--to raise their voices against genocide in Darfur.

But, I guess if you're a Jewish aid organization, you're automatically part of the broader Zionist-imperialist conspiracy.
